An entertainment stage, food and craft vendors will set up on Main Street, Town Square and Everett Street, which will be closed to traffic from the town square to Mitchell Street. Specialty foods include BBQ, hot dogs, hamburgers, shaved ice, funnel cakes and other desserts, candy apples, and kettle corn. You can also fill up at the Watermelon Eating Contest at 1 pm. Dress up your pet for the "Strut Your Mutt" Pet Contest sponsored by PAWS (Placing Animals Within Society). 10:30 am at Riverfront Park. It is an unusual contest because every entry is a blue-ribbon winner. Categories include "Best Tail Wag" and "Looks Most Like Owner." Music is a main attraction from 10:30 am to 9:45 pm. The line-up includes favorites such as Rye Holler Boys, The Freight Hoppers, the Elderly Brothers, Big House Radio ... and, of course, an appearance by Elvis (Chris Monteith). New this year is a Karaoke Block at 2 pm. Freedom Fest ends with one of the best fireworks shows in the mountains. Launched from the top of airport hill, the fireworks can be seen from just about anywhere in town, beginning at dark. The Star Spangled Banner will be performed during the fireworks.
