Swain County Quilt Trail
Smoky Mountains
The Smoky Mountains quilt block is a free hand quilt pattern depicting the beauty of the Great Smoky Mountains in simplified geometric form. Though un-traditional in form, it was inspired by the scrappy quilts made from bits and pieces of leftover fabric. The mountains often take on a blue appearance, which drove the limited color palette of blue and green. The quilt block hangs on the side of what used to be H&B Jewelers and before that, Crisp Camera and Sports Shop. The brick building was built in 1940 and the attached house in 1902.
